The Heinkel He162 was a German single engine, jet powered fighter aircraft, designed and built quickly to enter into service very late in World War II. It was primarily made of wood due to the shortage of metal in Germany. This single seat aircraft had an ejector seat for the pilot, was capable of a maximum speed of 562 mph with a range of 606 miles. It had a fuel capacity of just 695 litres and so its operational flight time was just 30 minutes. It had 2 x 20mm auto cannons or on later versions 2 x 30 mm guns.
This is an aircraft handed over to the RAF by the Luftwaffe after their surrender in May 1945, Nr. 120072.
